The La Quinta Rotary Club was without a working microphone as well as a speaker on Friday. President Dan led us in a booming voice that could be heard loud and clear. After a week's pause, another joke was forthcoming from the Prez. No further comment needed.

The speaker had agreed to talk (now the following are President Dan's words " on the legalization of narcotics." But, alas alack, he stood us up! Maybe he was watering some plants!

President Dan thanked all the past presidents who attended the meeting last Tuesday. Dave Turner was especially thanked for organizing this august group. More meetings will follow.

Jeff Williams a former District Governor was our only visitor, although Mark Weber was spotted dropping off flyers for the Coachella Valley East Club's golf tournament scheduled for September 13th. Anyone interested can pick up a flyer next Friday. Ron Jensen also made a luncheon appearance as did Sean O'Brien.

Club Opportunity grants are being made through September 15th. Give any ideas you might have to President Dan. It's a great way to fund a special activity.

Corry Hunter's ticket was chosen in the raffle. The marble was white!

Jeff Wattenbarger ably filled in for Allan. Allan was on a trip and was "sorely missed". Jeff was successful in raising funds. Walter Keating got the fine free badge and members gladly contributed for birthdays, anniversaries, and new and used auto purchases.

Our Mayor and club member, Don Adolph, was the "substitute" speaker and what a speaker he is! He gave an update on the City, including the widening of Fred Waring Drive. Thanks, Don, for your extemporaneous talk. We hope one day to get the City of Bell mayor to speak to us about maximizing pension plans.
