Rey and Doug are greeted by Bruce, Robert, Howard and Tom
I guess 95 degrees qualifies as another perfect fall day here in the desert as we gathered together as Rotarians and friends at the Cliff House where President Tom called the meeting to order at 12:15 and lead us in the pledge of allegiance.  Jeff Wattenbarger gave the invocation.
There were several visiting Rotarians in attendance today including Mary Burton (pictured above) from Oklahoma, Conrad Negron from the Indian Wells Club, and George Vasilaukaus from Colorado.
Our guests included Allan Levin’s son Jonathan and Captain Roy Grace joined us again and is looking forward to becoming a member soon!
President Tom made the following announcements:

Ed Casey is back in the Carlotta (room 328) and could use some company!  Please visit if you can.  The address is 41505 Carlotta Dr., Palm Desert, CA 92211
Our raffle was worth well over $390.00 today and Arnie drew the white marble to win only $5.00 of it!
Our Fine Master Allan Levin stepped to the podium and with the assistance of Bruce Cathcart carrying the basket in place of the absent Andy Lorenz collected happy dollars from Bruce for his 26 years of perfect attendance in Rotary (all at the La Quinta Club).  Next came an IOU from Nick for his birthday, Sandy Lauer was $5 late and things sort of went downhill from there.  It was announced that the Rule of 85 has a new requirement… you must be at least 85 years old to take advantage of it!
Our speakers this day were our very own Rotary Power Couple Dick and Helen Anderson who spoke to us about the Guatemala Literacy Project.   This year, with the involvement of 120 clubs and Rotary matching grants $450,000.00 with be contributed to the GLP.  The program has been in existence for 19 years and in that time 477 different clubs from 62 districts have participated.  By any measure, the GLP has been an incredible success.  Dick and Helen Anderson have been to Guatemala delivering books and participating with the program on 12 separate occasions.  La Quinta Rotarian Sandy Lauer accompanied the Andersons a couple of years ago and had a great time.  Our thanks to the Andersons for not only a great presentation this day, but also for keeping our club involved in such a worthy program and representing all La Quinta Rotarians in international service.
At 1:30 President Tom called the meeting to a close with the Four Way Test.
