President Doug announced that the next board meeting would be at his office on 2/10 at 5:30 PM.
Corry Hunter updated us on the upcoming (this weekend!) Strut Your Mutt fundraiser.
Dave Turner (who was late to his own “mandatory” meeting) updated us on the upcoming Desert Stock fundraiser.
In Victoria’s absence, Cory Kelly (personal trainer and owner of the Palms Athletic Club) shared a joke with us about which machine at the gym was most likely to be used by over weight, out of shape, older men to impress the younger women working out.  Why, the ATM of course!
Lou Lister
Lou Lister's Bike
Cory Kelly shared with us about his good friend and Vietnam Veteran Lou Lister who will be starting his journey across America on a bike in May from Chiraco Summit (Patton Museum) and ending in Easton, Maryland.  Called Lou Lister’s Ride for Vets, this event is to bring attention and support for all of our returning veterans from foreign wars.  To help sponsor Lou and this great event you can go to the Website:
Our raffle was over $800.00 today and the lucky winner of only $5 was Dick Grund.
Doug Motz did the honors of presenting Maria Melecio with their first Paul Harris pin.

Our Fine Master Allan Levin stepped to the podium and immediately auctioned off the Fine Free Badge.  David Turner made good on his promise from our last meeting to bid it up and after some very spirited bidding by several members it eventually sold for $85.00 to Bruce Franklin.

For the honor of coming in second place David carried the basket.   There was much ballyhoo made over an egregious error in the last newsletter that referred to Baird Boucher as our president-elect which resulted in a multitude of dollars collected from around the room.   David Turner eventually coughed up $50.00 for his birthday… $30 shy of his highest bid for the Fine Free Badge; my guess is that he secretly just wanted to carry the basket.  And speaking of secrets, our secret hand shaker this day was our speaker to be, Dr. Bruce Underwood!  Bruce is so beloved that nearly everyone shook his hand today!  Robert Wilkinson paid a dollar a year for his 60th birthday, and Howard, Judith, Tom, Corry, and Sandy L. all chipped in a few bucks for various good and bad deeds.
Our speaker this day was our very own Dr. Bruce C. Underwood.  Bruce is the Vice President of Healthy Futures & preventive care specialist who has dedicated his life to health and healing. Preventive Care Specialists provide integrated lifestyle counseling in the areas of addictive behaviors, exercise, nutrition, and stress for the prevention and treatment of chronic and degenerative diseases. This lifestyle counseling is provided on a personal, individualized basis. He earned his doctorate in preventive care and his second master’s degree in public health nutrition from Loma Linda University. He earned his first master’s degree in exercise physiology from the University of Kansas - Lawrence campus. Clearly This Bruce is the most educated of the “Notorious La Quinta Rotary Bruces”!
Bruce spoke to us today about… wait for it, being healthy.  His definition of being healthy is quite unique.  He told us that “If you wake up each day and have enough energy and enthusiasm to do the things you want to do and need to do, then you are healthy”.  He provided each of us with a Neurobehavioral Symptom Checklist for us to complete and offered a confidential free analysis to aid us in becoming healthier.  Bruce provided us with so much information in such a short period of time on the uniqueness of biochemistry, nutrition, sleep, medications and more that it was almost too much to absorb in one sitting.  Of course Bruce welcomed questions and offered to make himself available to members in the future.  To visit Bruce’s website go to:
At 1:37 President Doug called the meeting to a close with the Four Way Test.
