President Sandy prepares to make this week's announcements

Allan Levin was looking for a fill in volunteer as one of the Memorial Day beer servers had to bow out.  The space was filled and all is well for the event Memorial Day at the Palm Springs Air Museum.

Board Meeting May 21st at Baird’s jewelry store at 5:30 PM... Boucher Fine Jewelers.

Sandy Stewart thanked JimBo Dorr and his wife Karen for hosting the Seven Rotarians that played golf and a few more than that who showed up for some after game beverages.  Sandy Stewart says rumor has it that David Archer may still be there.

Robert Wilkinson announced that Sandy Stewart’s demotion dinner will be held June 28th, 2014 at the La Quinta Resort starting at 5:30 PM.  There is said to be some surprises in store so mark your calendars.

Dick Anderson took to the podium to speak about the Rotary Foundation annual Share Giving.  We need everyone who hasn’t given their annual giving or signed up for the Direct Deposit to make their donations NOW.  Dick gave us some good information in that the dollars we give have been coming back to us in greater numbers.    Please give what you are able- no matter what the amount.

The Club tortured Walter with version of "Happy Birthday"

Allan Levin, our notorious fine master, took to the stage and fined numerous people for birthdays, anniversaries, and multiple other good and not so good deeds depending on who you ask.  Thanks Allan for your dedication to filling our coffers for good even though we don’t always seem so thankful.

The La Quinta High School Mock Trial Team

Our speaker this week was Nick Kraushaar who spoke to us on the GREAT year the mock trial team had.  Nick shared with us how the Mock Trial program works.  The materials are received in September and the real work begins.  There are 4 competitions, one in Indio and then 3 more in Riverside.    This year the team just missed making the final 8.  Nick was very complimentary of all 16 kids involved in the program this year and said there is great potential in this group of kids. Visiting were the teacher advisor Shannon Fix and members Reina Vasquez (who for her role as a witness won a blue ribbon).  Reina would like to study and become an oncologist once she completes high school.  Brenda Flores, who was also a witness, would like to eventually practice family law.  Victoria Thompson, who was a doctor witness, would eventually like to be a profiler or an attorney.  Tuan Nguyen, whose role was that of a criminal, would like to study engineering and eventually work for Google.  Felipo “aka the Italian Stallion”, an exchange student from Italy who was also the winner of our four way test, would like to go to law school in England and eventually practice law in the United States.  There was a thank you card presented to the club and verbal thanks from all of the student team members present, many who will be back to the team next year.    A big thank you to Nick for his time dedicated to helping these kids excel and gain skills that they will carry forward in life and their careers.

President Sandy Stewart closed the meeting at 1:30 with the Four Way Test.
