The meeting on March 1st was called to order by President Robert Wilkinson. Jimbo Dorr led the group in the flag salute and Frank Blum gave an invocation which included prayers for the deadlocked politicians in Washington.  Visitors were from Washington, Oregon and California. Guests included prior members Mark Weber and Phil Rushing as well as a guest of Greg Lane (Joe..a Wells Fargo Banker).

Announcements included:

A "Strut Your Mutt" meeting will be held Wednesday, March 6th at Dave Turner's office. Anyone who has previously contributed input should be there. Andy Brakebill will be at the Farmer's Market in Old Town on Sunday distributing flyers and discussing the event with shoppers. Rack cards and flyers are going out to many businesses.

Help is needed next week for the La Quinta Art Festival. Information is on line at our website. Call Richard Jandt for further information.

Joe LaMantia discussed the easy way, using the RI website, to make Paul Harris contributions. Joe also announced that the upcoming PRYDE event is seeking Tribal Elders. Contact Joe for further information. Joe further announced that the Palm Desert Rotary Club is having a golf tournament on April 22nd and he is looking for other golfers to participate in a foursome.

President Robert announced that Interact Club is having a car wash in front of Lumpys on April 6th. This will be in conjunction with another Rotary parking lot sale on same day.

Mark Weber, former La Quinta Rotarian, announced that the Coachella Valley East Club is having a St. Patrick's Day event on Saturday, March 16th at Spotlight 29 Casino.

Andy Brakebill presented flags from 3 Clubs in New Zealand. He visited our recent Exchange Student Lisa. Andy will be giving a presentation of his trip at a later date.

RI finally found Marc Rosen.  Dick Anderson presented Marc with his Paul Harris Certificate and nine pins recognizing the genererous gifts his has made to Rotary over the years.  Marc's most recent Paul Harris pin contains three rubies.  You don't see many of those around!

Jimbo announced that the 9-hole Golf Tourney and Duck Racing is now scheduled for Friday May 24th. There will be more information later.

Brett Anderson had the lucky ticket and picked a white ball.

Bruce Cathcart, acting for missing Allan Levin, took center stage, and recognized many members for various infractions including birthdays, anniversaries, lateness, membership years, and a few other misgivings.  Reaching into his pocket was Tom McDermott who out dueled a few others for the fine free badge.  Others digging deep were Wes, Jimbo, LeRoy, Greg, Mayor Don, Bill, Brett, Marc Rosen, Ed, Andy B., Jeff, Rey, Phil Rushing, Merv, Dick Grund, visitor Mark Weber, Bruce U, Sandy, Walter and acting finemaster Bruce C.

The speaker was Elizabeth Klute, Ed Casey's traveling daughter and a many time visitor to our Club. Her topic was "Bridging Language Barriers" through pictographs.  Working in the Caribbean Islands, where there are 126 languages, of which 40 are non-written, she has helped develop pictures and other non-verbal signs for public warnings.

The meeting was adjourned with a recitation of the 4-Way Test.
