The 34th meeting of the 28th year was called to order by President Sandy Stewart.

Jeff Wattenbarger led us in the salute to our Country's flag and  Doug Motz gave us words of inspiration.

Visiting Rotarians (and there were many) hailed from California, Alberta, Oregon,

South Dakota and the State of Washington.  Diane Kelly introduced Diana Weaver for the third time and Bruce Cathcart introduced Malia Monroe also for the third time.


President Sandy makes this week's announcements

Announcements included the following:


President Sandy thanked all who participated in working at last weekend's "Strut Your Mutt" event.  Special thanks were made to David Turner and Baird Boucher.  Over $6,000 in raffle prizes were donated and more than 500 people attended.  Also in attendance were well over 150 dogs.  Per Chairperson David Turner more than $15,000 was raised.  There will be a "wrap meeting" next Monday (April 7th) night at 5:00 PM at the Cliff House.  All are invited.


Our two newest members Gary and Linda Tyer

The next Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 15th at Baird's store.
Next Saturday, April 12th is the District Assembly at Redlands.  The Club will pay your $20 registration to fee.  Contact President Sandy for further info.
The District Conference (at the Doral Hotel in Cathedral City) is scheduled for  May 2nd through the 5th.  The theme is "You Ain't Nothing But a Hound Dog". There is a golf tournament scheduled on Thursday, May 1st.  Call President Sandy for further information.

April 26th is the City of La Quinta's Birthday.  The Club's job that day is to prepare and serve hot dogs.  Help is needed.  More info at next week's meeting.


Joe LaMantia is proud of PRYDE!


Joe LaMantia announced that the PRYDE Leadership gathering is May 17th and 18th.  Training to participate as a leader is April 19th.  Contact Joe for further information.

Marc Rosen announced that the Scholarship Committee is meeting next Wednesday, April 9th to start reviewing student portfolios.  Contact Marc with any comments or if you wish to help out with the selection.

Allan auctions off the fine free badge for April

Allan Levin, our esteemed Sergeant at Arms, took to the podium.  The April fine free
badge was jointly won by Rey Neufeld and Merv Kolb for their April birthdays.
Other recognitions went to Corry Hunter, Dave Turner, Greg Lane, Judith Redwine,
Gary Tyer, Joe LaMantia, Bruce Underwood, Sandy Lauer, Doug Motz, Helen Anderson, Bruce Cathcart, Dick Grund and Bruce Underwood.  Recognitions were for various reasons but all monies collected will be used for a good cause!

Congratulations to Dick Anderson who is receiving La Quinta's "Pillar of the Community" award. 


Speakers Chris Escobedo and Frank Spevacek

The speakers today were Frank J. Spevacek, City Manager for the City of La Quinta and his assistant Chris Escobedo.  Their topic was an update of the City including a mission statement.  There is now a surplus for the current year as costs are down and revenue is up.  There is also an updated web site for the City where you can do business 24 hours a day.  Infrastructure changes will be done to roads as well as to the Senior Center.   Frank also announced that the property near Costco (in front of the senior housing) will become an auto dealership for Chrysler and Jeep.  For more information about Frank, Chris and the City of La Quinta please visit their website at
